fourth dimension

Scientists tell us that Federation ships jump through the fourth dimension, but they admit they can’t really explain it.  If any ship has landed at a place, Victor knows exactly where that place is, so he can take that ship, or any other, through the fourth dimension (4D) to land there.  To land at a new place, Victor needs instructions from a trained Pilot.

4D jumps are fast, but even a top Pilot can’t take a ship through 4D to an exact place.  He must jump as close as possible, and use the gravity drive to manoeuvre.

When a ship ‘takes off’ into 4D, it leaves the three dimensions that we live in, so it vanishes.  When it ‘lands,’ it appears out of 4D.
